Welcome in our store!
It is almost a hundred years old, this famous teahouse. In 1919 the Englishman Arthur Betjeman opened his first tea shop in Paris. Percy Barton joined him. The first Dutch exclusive tea shop opened on the Denneweg in the Hague in 1992. Gradually less customers from the Statenkwartier and the Vogelwijk went shopping in town. That is why in 2011 a second tea shop was opened in the Statenkwarteir, on the Aert van der Goesstraat.
Customers are always welcomed with a cup of tea here. To taste and to take their time to view the assortment, which consists of over 180 kinds of tea, from many corners of the world. An international product in an international neighbourhood. Yes, they feel at home here, in the Statenkwartier with all the different nationalities. You can find Betjeman & Barton shops in many other countries: England, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, but also in Canada, Malaysia and Japan. All over the world, tea lovers visit the twenty shops.
But here in the Hague they like a bit of class. And tea sets are part of this and something nice to nibble to go along. Tea as a posh present or as a small present? All is possible, of course beautifully wrapped, to make our customers happy. In restaurants and hotels too, Betjeman & Barton tea is served; in grand cafés as well as in restaurants with one, two or three Michelin stars. The leading restaurants really appreciate the quality of the tea. There are many unique kinds of tea. Without wanting to brag : they really know a lot about tea here. Is the shop completely ready? Certainly not. They will change and swop the interior and they stay up-to-date in the world of tea. Because there is still a lot to discover.
